Re: 1923 chain drive

This seller has a 'tude. This truck is no tract-house garage dweller. It won't fit.
Seriously, it's very cool but how big is the target market for 95 year old chain drive IHC trucks? Like next to zero?
EVERYONE will call it a Mack, first...
He wants too much and he needs to chill.

Yea, his ad leaves something to be desired for sure,

I'd love to have been there when he was buying it, telling the old boy how **** it was and no one would be interested,,,,bla bla bla,

it is pretty cool though,

BRJ, is that dump bed a later edition?
It's old no matter what.

Re: 1923 chain drive

I think it is period correct. Someone robbed the headlights off of it.
Yea, the market is small, your not going to drive it to shows, or at least one that isn't in your exact neighborhood. Not may can afford to restore then trailer it everywhere.
There was an old house mover on the ATHS site, he said when they were moving their old chain drive Mack, they would pull the chains and tow it. If they were making a short run, they would pull one chain and fasten to a dummy sprocket on one side which would have the effect of cutting the rear ratio in half (doubling speed) but the spider gears took a beating!

Re: 1923 chain drive

As I've said before, my grandfather drove a hard rubber tire, chain-drive Mack dump truck in the 1920s and 1930s.
My dad told the story of a chain-drive fuel delivery truck in New England losing control on a hill and causing great damage.

Re: 1923 chain drive

I know a guy in Seattle who collects and restores FWD trucks like this one, he's nuts for them,

his restorations are beautiful, but as he told me, top speed pegged is 12mph, not very practical other than showing once in a while at a carshow,
