Awesome 73 1210 here in Sask. Just a little disappointing look under the hood and see its only a 6.

Worked on a dually dump with the AMC 6 under the hood, it was a workhorse. Not fast, but it would out haul a Chevy C30 dumper.

Yes, the AMC is a fine and capable workhorse but I'm just a V8 guy and just can't get excited about a six cylinder engine in a truck. Even though I have 4 of them. 5 counting the Chev.

I'm the opposite, never liked V engines of any kind, I like a long stroke inline.

If I was ordering a Loadstar in the 60's I would have opted for the 308 Vs a 304 or 345. If I needed the power of a 392 I would have likely spec'd a Perkins instead.
I would never consider owning a tractor (semi) with a V8 (Cummins, Cat or Detroit) but if I needed (and could afford the fuel penalty and initial cost) would own a KT Cummins inline 1150 CID inline 6!

I love that little 304 in my Loadstar and it has given me 33 years of good service. For me its the sound of the V8 that keeps me coming back for more. The dual glass packs on the 304 V8 are music to my ears. A straight piped six is just annoyingly loud after a little while. I know,I've got 2.
