Much nicer looking than an Eldo.

More practical too. But I'll make do with what I've got for the time being and see what comes down the road.

Re: Travelall

One person in my town had a 60's T all. All the kids in the scout troop wanted to ride in Mr Soliman's "truck"! He always corrected the kids, "It is a STAION WAGON"! Truck or station wagon, it was still the coolest vehicle to ride in, his other was a 2 stroke Saab!

Re: Travelall

When I was going to school one of the buses was an A series Travelall. Not mine though. I got to ride in the big Ford F500. Pretty sure that Travelall had a bigger six cylinder engine than the Ford did.

Re: Travelall

Depending on the year, the Ford could have had a 223 or a 240, the IHC a 220 or a 240. I don't remember when the 300 Ford showed up. The 240 was the smaller version of the 300.

The 59 Ford had the little 223 as I recall and the driver made good use of the four speed transmission to make it up the steepest hill on the way to school. Wondered if the A series Travelall might have had the 264 like my B110. Now thats a truck engine.

Re: Travelall

223 was no powerhouse, but got the job done, bet he wished he had more gears or a 2 spd rear! 225 Dodges were used in school buses, and up to 2 1/2 ton trucks. Different times. IHC bus chassie would likely have a 282 or 308 in those years.

Re: Travelall

I have two 1968 travelalls that were used for school buses. Both were 1200 series with 258 six cylinders. Both has 4 speeds. No AC.

Re: Travelall

My experience is the 258 AMC in the IHC was fairly rare. IHC could buy a smog cert 258 from AMC cheaper than they could Cert their own small 6. IHC's went away to be replaced by the AMC in '67 or '68.
I maintained one one ton dump with one. It seamed that local gov were the big buyers of the six cyl equipped vehicles. Most civi spec'd one got the SV.
