This tach? This tachometer came out of one of my "R" series

Re: 57 Dump Truck

If I'm not mistaken the tach in the dump truck appears to be an old mechanical driven unit. Those interest me. Is that what yours is in the video? I suppose a diesel would have to have a mechanical tachometer.......?

Re: 57 Dump Truck

My post says this tach came out of an "R" series. I should have I should have included IHC.
The tach is mechanical. I made the drive to adapt to the Cummins 4bta.
I had 8 of these tachometer and there are 3 left, including the one in the video.
Many large IHC IHC trucks had the tachometer and the distributor drive.

Re: 57 Dump Truck

That's a good reminder that I should be looking for the drive mechanism as well. While not a necessity I'd like to add a mechanically driven tachometer and a PTO winch to my truck someday if I ever come across those items.

Re: 57 Dump Truck

In answer to the suggestion of a Diesel requiring a mechanical tachometer. There is a type of magnetic sensor that can be mounted on the engine where it can count the gear teeth on the starter ring gear.
A separate tone wheel can be added to the front of the crankshaft with the sensor mounted correctly.
