Re: L/R Series Cab

I could be mistaken, but looks like an "S" front end on "L/R" cab.

That's what I thought as well. Definitely double window and old style door handles, but fenders have that distinct headlight location.

Also, the flare around the wheel opening means the fenders are from a larger-than-one ton truck.

Re: L/R Series Cab

yea, interesting that there would still be L cabs in 56, maybe they used left overs in the bigger trucks? who knows with IHC,

I've found Everything I thought I knew about L, R, S, transitions has been proven wrong lately, so not even going to guess.

Re: L/R Series Cab

Here's a thought. Perhaps the body and front clip were from separate vehicles at, maybe, a school bus motorpool lot, chemical company motorpool, or some other place that would have accumulated miscellaneous pieces - painted the same color - and at some point they got paired together when the salvage guy came to pick stuff up. There is no guarantee they were ever mounted on the same chassis! Judging from the way the body is painted, everything including the seat frame being yellow, leads me to think of a fleet arrangement of some kind. Highway maintenance, large company, or .....????? Fill in the blank.........

Re: L/R Series Cab

The steering column drop is from a 160+. Tach and other gauges say big truck. Nice cab, but it will not fit a pickup. The cab mounts are different. I posted pictures and a description in L110 Shorty build. It is likely this cab will have electric wipers. I wish I was close enough to make buying an option.

Re: L/R Series Cab

Look further into the interior...
Under the radio hole is what looks to be a cable operated PTO knob. The glove box door has an instruction plate that may be for a 2spd rear. Notice the additional gauges? One looks like it could be a vacuum gauge (for brake vac.)
I have to agree it's for a medium truck and the grille is an S for sure. Plus the hood has the faux vents, aren't they found only on the S series?

Re: L/R Series Cab

nikkinutshop: Interesting you mention the electric wipers. I was thinking about them specifically. Almost had a set in nearby Park City but it didn't work out. If I had a way to get this cab home - and it had the wiper motor and mechanism - I'd be happy to pay the $250 (or less) just to get some of the parts. Maybe I'll hit up the seller to see if he'd sell off some pieces. You never know until you ask.

I'm not sure what kind of demand there is for IHC cabs in this area. IHC must have had a robust dealer network because the L/R/S model pickups are fairly common. Complete trucks come up for sale regularly.

Re: L/R Series Cab

I put an S cab behind an L front end so there's no reason someone couldn't do it the other way around.
