Finally Returning.....

Hello everyone - Marcus here, and finally getting caught up enough to return to this magnificent website! As you might remember, I'm restoring what I THOUGHT was a '51 IH PU L110 .........now it seems that I may have either a '50 or a '52 (have not had the time to trace the serial number - and I lost the information posted concerning the serial number sequences on the "Old" website). This was a true "barn find" having been placed in an aircraft hanger in August 1974, and not moved since.......I had every intention of reassembly and "flip" - however, the truck was originally built in Springfield, OH, my wife is from Springfield, and when she learned this little bit of information, the response was: "And just when are you going to restore MY truck...........? You all know the rest of THAT story - not going to get flipped, for sure! I have a modest collection of antique Fords, ranging from '29 through '51 plus I own the only Mustang PU in existance - a concept car, and NOT a Ranger with a Mustang front end grafted on; then there are a few MOPAR thrown into the mix. THIS restoration is all from scratch, knowledge-wise. "Bucky" (Ohio is the Buckeye State) is nearing final prep for paint, needing only a final inspection of the motor (SD-220). Personally, I am a retired US Army Intelligence Officer, CW4, having served most of my 26 year career in SF and Ranger units; I have failed "retirement" as I am currently the Director of the Eighth Judicial District Drug Court; I live in Central Mississippi.

Welcome back, if your truck has hidden door hinges then it is a 50.

Re: Finally Returning.....

Welcome back.

That's one way of keeping the wife on board with your restoration!
I'm from Urbana, near Springfield. The IH plant was about halfway between the two towns on rt 68. My uncle Melvin worked there for quite a few years.

Make sure to post up some pictures

from urbana nice! I grew up in Springfield then later moved to Urbana to attend U of I. Now I live in OKC thanks to my career path. I use to drive all over campus and that area in a 72' green super beetle with black porsche fuchs wheels. You may have seen it, was rather well known.

Re: Finally Returning.....

When you say U of I, I think you're talking about a different Urbana. I'm from Urbana, Ohio.

Fun fact: Urbana, Ohio is in Champaign county. Urbana/Champaign Illinois was named by a settler that moved out 'west' from Ohio and had no originality. :D

Bill - Thanks for the information: mine has exposed hinges, so I can rule out a '50: however, someone on the "old" oldihc told me that it was the '51 that had hidden hinges - or am I not remembering correctly? As well, someone else posted serial numbers that would have determined exactly the year of my IH; I foolishly did not bother at the time to record those numbers, and NOW need them - any chance you have access to those serial numbers??
Warm Regards, Marcus
