Saving a KB1 in Minnesota

Hello all, I'm Todd from southern Minnesota. I lucked into a solid '47 KB1. Good body without a chassis. My plans are to put it on a late '70's 4X4 chassis. Any help or advice is welcome.

Hello, Welcome to the group. Probably postup in the K-KB forum area, These guys are most familiar with your model. We have one member who goes with import and puts sheet metal on that. He goes by Monsonmotors. Pictures are always appreciated.

Re: Saving a KB1 in Minnesota

I've witnessed K Series sheetmetal on 1970s/ 1980s Chevy truck frames. That should work fine. K Series on Chevy frame is supposed to fit very nicely.
Keep in mind that early frames were nearly flat or horizontal across the top. Perhaps a small bump over the rear axle. Old truck frames narrow as they go forward, too.
Newer frames often have a big "dip" between the axles. Half of the rear frame ends up INSIDE the pickup bed, sometimes. At least on my projects it often does.
On a 4x4 added HEIGHT is fine, so you should be OK.
On my latest IHC K Series I decided to put Toyota 4WD under the sheetmetal. Normally I'd use the Toyota frame, too.
This time the donor Toyota frame was badly deformed and bent so I put Toyota axles and drivetrain under a repaired K Series pickup frame.
I'm hung up on Toyota straight front 4wd axle. They want $$$ for just that! The donor was IFS 4wd. Not easily doable.
If you need help just ask!

Thanks to you both.
I have been digging in the KB section and will be posting in there too.
My plan is to add a filler to over the dip to make it closer to a flat top frame.
