Re: Welcome!!!!

Hello, All.

I hadn't been to the site for a while, so I was dismayed that, just like lots of other "inconveniences" these days, someone would make life for others just a bit more challenging! Fortunately, you made life enjoyable again by picking yourself up, dusting off, and getting "back on the horse" the same type of qualities that made IH so great!

My father was a field test engineer for IH CE equipment in Melsrose Park, IL., and I continued the tradition by coming to work for IH at the "Hinsdale" (AG) engineering center, in the final years of IH. The point is, having been raised around IH products (AG / CE / Cub Cadet / Scouts), I am still a "die-hard" IH enthusiast! My brothers and I still have IH products, and are happy to see the passion for these products still continue. "Kudos" for keeping the spirit, legend, and history of IH alive !

Re: Welcome!!!!

Here's some trivia for you.
Before I was born, on the Northeast corner of Mannheim and North was a small house and an air strip.
That was my dad's place. If I remember correctly, IH bought my dad's house, hanger, etc.

Re: Welcome!!!!

This is my first visit here in quite a long while. I was a member of the original forum. Then after that went down I was back for a while under a different name. I didn't realize it had gone down again till a few days ago. At least this time it let me use my original handle!

I'm finally getting back to work on my International trucks. I have a D-30 which we got fired up last week for the first time in nearly 15 years. I also have a '56 S-150 and a '58 AC-150. They all have plenty of issues and need a lot of TLC. Hopefully I can start making at least a little more progress on them.

It's good to be back. Hopefully the forums can stay up and running this time.

Hello Rich, Welcome Back. If you have not been on the Main Page: http://oldihc.org/ Take a little time to look around there. From that point, you can go to several other areas. Some will require registration also(use the same info you used on the forum site). We have spread this over a couple of different areas and expanded some.
Thanks for being here!

Re: Welcome!!!!

I have posted this story on facebook but I am re posting on here for the benefit of those readers who have not seen it.

About 1951, my late father was running a K6 tipper lorry which was supplied new in right hand drive form to the City of London for use in clearing up the debris left by the extensive German bombing during WWII. Later, father bought another K6 which was operated by my late brother. They also had a third K6 which they cannibalised for spare parts. The Achilles heel of these K^'s were the half shafts which failed from time to time probably as the result of working on uneven building sites whilst overloaded. A spare half shaft was kept behind the seat together with a length of 1/2" water pipe. Following a failure, both half shafts were removed and the pipe used to poke out the broken piece. the shafts were replaced and you were on your way again. There is a post from someone in Australia who is restoring an ex army flatbed K6 which is fitted with a non standard cab. Somewhere, I have some small black and white photos of fathers lorry at work but I can't find them at the moment.

Re: Welcome!!!!

Hi,

My name is Hal and I live in rural ND. I'm trying to get my '48 2-ton IHC grain truck started so I can haul some manure. I think its a KB6. It started well three years ago, but now the starter turns very slowly, even with a new 6v battery (it had two in parallel when I bought the truck). Today I will re-clean the battery ground. Its grounded to one of the starter bolts. If that does not fix the problem I will go over the starter. Is this the right procedure or should I first check the wires to the ignition and starter button? I assume that if they operate the solenoid that is all that is required or do they have to carry a minimum amount of current? The solenoid looks new. I have already cleaned the cable from the battery positive to the starter solenoid and all battery cable terminals.

Re: Welcome!!!!

Howdy!
We will tell you to replace the battery cables first with both cables reaching all the way to the engine with clean, shiny connections.
The short cable off the battery tends to gain a very high resistance. Replace it for sure with a longer one all the way to the engine.
You can check our idea temporarily by cleaning existing connections and using a good heavy set of jumper cables to back up your existing battery cables.

totally new guy here

Howdy. I live in Western Oregon and am doing some work on my 67 1700 Loadstar.
I have had this truck since 78 when I bought it as a cab and chassis. No one else but me has driven it and I used it to haul wood, draft horses, building materials, gravel and sand, hay, straw, tractors, implements, you name it.

Right now it is in the paint shop on a farm in the Willamette Valley and I am hunting around for some front lower parking lenses.

This truck has a tired but running 345, five and two, nine hundred rubber, flatbed and hoist
