Hello everybody, just wanted to introduce myself, I'm Mike, obviously, given my username, from Ontario, Canada. I'm joining this forum on behalf of my father, who has a 1938 International D2. He bought the truck from a scrapyard in Gravenhurst, Ontario, in around 1977 or 1978 or so, I think I was about two or three years old when he brought it home. He was away from home a lot for work in those days, so it took quite a while for the truck to get restored. It was finally done in the late 90's or very early 2000's, and he was able to use it. Unfortunately, during that time, he was still away from home a lot for work, and was unable to closely supervise the work that was done on it. The truck was somewhat functional, but far from "correct". Now he has it at a friend's place in a somewhat torn down state, and they are finding a lot of issues. Hence my presence on this forum, to ask for advise. I'll be starting a thread in the 1940 and older subforum to ask for some specific advice, but I thought it would be appropriate to introduce myself here first. Here are a few pictures of the truck (that's my '68 camaro next to it):

And interestingly, my family seems to have a bit of a connection to International trucks, when I was a small child, my parents drove International Scouts, which I fondly remember, I believe there was a '74, a '78, and an '80. After returning from WWII, my grandfather had a garage in Gravenhurst, Ontario, and was an International dealer, this first picture is probably from 1957 as it is showcasing the Golden Anniversary International Pickup at a trade show. Also some pics of the garage, showing what I believe is an International tow truck from around the same vintage as my father's '38. I understand from the family stories that my grandmother would actually be the one who would frequently be driving the tow truck, while my grandfather worked in the garage.

Cool truck, I assume that is a cable box lift with the crank.

Yes, the truck apparently was purchased new as a cab-and-chassis, and the dump box was added at that time. So the box apparently has been on the truck for its whole life. The story my father heard from the scrapyard was that it was originally used in an apple orchard in Chatham, Ontario. The cable crank lift box with the hinge at the back would likely only be suitable for lighter loads, as you have to lift the whole load in order to dump it.
