52 L110 Hello from the Little Rock Area

IMG_0595.jpg
Hello OldIHC members. I am new to the forum. I bought the truck from my brother who has had it for over 20 years. 10 of those years, it sat in his backyard not running. I am looking forward to making her a driver in the beginning and keep doing something extra on a monthly basis. I have already went thru the brakes and replaced most of the brake components. I was surprised how hard some of these parts were to find, such as brake hoses coming off the rear axle and front hose going to the brake cylinder. I also took the gas tank out-replaced the sending unit and sealed--not an easy job. My fuel gauge still does not work correctly-- it is always way below the "E". Something more to fix.

She is drive-able. I am have not taken her too far--I have not built my confidence up yet. I tell myself that is why I have Hagerty Insurance, so just take that chance and drive!

I have already spent several evening reading the IH forum and love it. Lots of thing I can learn.
So any tips on my fuel gauge, I would appreciate it. Currently there is a 12v battery in the truck, so I believe that it has been converted from 6 to 12v. I am not sure that it has been done correctly.

I am adding a few pics--pics tell a thousand words.

Many Regards,
Sam from Little Rock

Nice truck Sam. And it's a bonus that you can drive it a bit, at this point. You are well on your way to making it a driver! Good luck and enjoy the process.

Welcome to the site! You have a pretty straight and solid-looking truck.

For the fuel gauge, you'll need to figure out whether the issue is the sender, wiring or gauge itself, by process of elimination.

So that is what mine is supposed to look like! I used a long arm, 12v sender for a 48-55 Ford pickup in my fuel tank and it fit and works perfectly(maybe I have a Ford tank who knows). You will need to ground the sender. Paid around $30 at parts store. If the gauge is reading incorrectly like you say, try switching the two wires on the gauge. Have fun with it
