Brand new (to me) 1947 KB-5

Hi everybody

Literally just took delivery of this 1947 beauty today.

I've got a lot to learn, it's 20 years older than I am!

But the intention is to turn her into a viable working truck again.

Any hints and tips, VERY welcome!

Re: Brand new (to me) 1947 KB-5

That Binder is a beauty and probably my favorite model.
Be kind to SCOTTSO, he is the go-to IH parts guy and if anyone can find anything for your truck, he is it.
So, why don't I have a "K" and have an "R". It is all about what fits. Too much me and I do not fit a "K" anything, well, maybe the box. I've never minded being in the box and now I am 69 this year and little has changed.
Back when these trucks were new and the weather seemed to get much colder, in the winter, it was possible to buy, what my Dad called, Trap Door underwear. The trap-door was there because the underwear was a one piece unit that went from the wrists to the ankles. When very suddenly and without warning became something that had to be dealt with in a hurry, the trap-door was much appreciated.
Old truck's heaters were not able to keep the occupants of the cab warm enough, so total body insulation was needed, here in the north. My mother liked to give different names to body parts, presumably, to remover herself from saying "The real thing". So it went with the trap-door underwear. the flap became "tailgate".

degs,
Welcome to the site! In my opinion, if you aren't going to drive it on the interstate, and you're happy with the 1940's pace, restore it to original working condition.
If you add power and speed, be sure to upgrade the brakes.

Hi Derek and welcome to the forum.
That's a good looking truck and it suits that colour scheme. Lots of valuable information here. I too have a KB5 and hope to be on the road soon ......

Hi Derek, congratulations, now you own a almost brand new truck. I love theese spoke weels.
Looking to the rear axle, on it's picture, I could not see the two speed mechanism, so it must be a one speed axle.

It is a beauty, welcome to the group. I could see that as a classy delivery vehicle, but I don't know what plans you have for "working condition". What area of the country did you locate it? Already restored or just carefully perserved? Keep us up on its progress and pictures, pictures, pictures!
