need transport

Hi everyone! I'm new here, and one of your members suggested I might try here to find someone who could transport two fenders and two running boards from an old IHC truck from Burlington Iowa to the Portland Oregon area in the next month or two sometime. If you can, please contact me so we can make arrangements. Thank you very much. Mike Mc

Mike Mc

Welcome to our little group. While here I think you should check out the pre40 section. LOL

If you have no luck with getting a fellow forum member heading that way I have used this company to do some internal shipping before and found them to be real easy to deal with. https://www.odfl.com/Home/

Hi Trevor! Yes, I think I will check out the pre-40's forum :-) I will also check out that shipping co. and see what we can find out about cost. Thanks for the info., and I'll CU later. Meanwhile, anyone else who can help with this shipment, please contact me unless I post that we've already made arrangements. Thank you.

Re: need transport

Welcome to the group Mike! Too bad you didn't ask last summer. I made a run to Burlington IA and Muncie IN and returned to Colorado empty. Hang in there, never know when someone is going to be making a trip. MM

Re: need transport

It has been suggested before: Fastenal does shipping, especially if you are not in a big hurry. The stipulation, it has to be on a pallet and ship from a store that has a forklift to a store that has a forklift, or perhaps a truck that has a lift gate.
Here is their main page: http://www.fastenal.com/web/home
I have not used them yet, but I believe other members might have.

Re: need transport

I make 3 or 4 trips a year up to Oregon coast. no problem to swing by Portland with some gear if you can get it to Northern Cal (Chico-redding area).

Re: need transport

Thanks guys. We'll wait for a little while more before hiring a shipper, as we may get lucky and hear from someone heading this way from Burlington one of these days. Both of those shipping companys look ok, if you can judge by a website :-) I'll need to figure out if we're going to separate the fenders from the running boards, as that would make the package much more compact, and easier to put on a pallet. The companys want to know size and weight, of course, before they can come up with any pricing. I hope to find someone who will be on a more direct route here, ChicoJohn, but that would work also if they were headed your direction. We took a motorcycle trip to Chico a few years back and got a private tour of the Kruse collection while there. We really enjoyed seeing your area. Mike Mc

I would remove the running boards you should then be able to package them up into a fairly neat compact banana shaped package.
Do I remember someone mentioning that you can get parts shipped by bus (greyhound) because they are the old ones wouldn't matter if they got chucked about a bit.

Mike Miller is Bill still looking at the SL.
