64 C900 4-152 to V304 swap

Hello,

After having some issues with overheating, my 152 cracked the head from the intake valves to the sparkplugs on all 4 cylinders. I managed to pick up a 304 out of a 79 Scout with the intent of using the head on my 152 (contoured pistons). With the amount of heat the block would have been subject too, I was considering swapping in the 304 depending on how difficult/costly it would be.

Will the 304 bolt up to my T-13 and if so, will the T-13 be able to handle the difference in power?

How difficult is it to swap the motor in other than getting the motor mounts fabbed and installed?

Thanks!

Well the same truck came with a 304 so I imagine it can be done. Having said that, the slant 4 is rather unique and I would hope to fix and re use it. I doubt they made a lighter frame for the 4 banger. It would be a different story if you had an old Scout.

Actually, the 900 models only came with a 4 banger as I recall.

The later 908 models had the optional 266" V-8.

Even so, I think a 304 would be practically a bolt in affair.

The T-13 would probably be OK too, but why not upgrade the trans to a nice 4-speed?

I just ment that body style, 1/2 ton, could be had with the V8 not that that exact model did.

Thanks for the help!

Cornbinder89: I completely agree that the slant 4 is peculiar enough to warrant trying to keep. My big issue is the drivability of it, I want to drive it regularly, and the slant 4 just doesn't cut it for everyday use.

1975IH200: I'll definitely take a look at the 908 to look for any differences between the two trucks. As far as the tranny goes, is the 4 speed automatic? I have way too much fun shifting that 3 speed to swap it for an automatic.
