Engine number list for SV8s?

I just took delivery of a 345 V8 that will go into my '60 B112. The engine is supposed to be from a '72 1-ton truck, and I would like to confirm its age. Is there a list of engine numbers out there? Google and this site's Search function brought up nothing. The S/N is 117968x. Thx!

Re: Engine number list for SV8s?

As far as I know, the best you can do is find the date code on the upper rear web of the block.
That will tell you when the block was cast, by Month & Year.

Without the LST for the truck the factory installed it in, by serial number, that is the closest you can get.

Is this the casting date?

On the upper rear web of the 345's block I found a stamped metal strip that is fastened on with four screws. It reads 4-6-W. The last character could possibly be an H. If this is the casting date for the block, is it read April 1976?

The "W" represents the year.
