Looking for distributor advance specs for 1110427 dist.

Looking for advance data for an aluminum body Delco dist. 1110427 3F18 (non-emissions BG265). Perhaps a scan of the specs page from an appropriate repair manual? I've found the manual section on Gangsters IH Manual page for this type of dist. in an AMC engine, but the dist #'s don't match up so I can only assume the curves are likely different as well.

I'm working on a GM TBI project and I would like to create the factory curve for starters.

Thanks,
Jake

Re: Looking for distributor advance specs for 1110427 dist.

If I'm understanding correctly you're trying to recreate HEI TBI advance using a mechanical advance dist?
TBI is speed-density fuel injection. It has to have that engine speed input from the distributor to work or it won't inject fuel.
Am I getting you right?
I'm all for your TBI conversion. I applaud your efforts! I think it would be much easier though with a HEI/AMC hybrid dist? You need the electronics from the HEI dist to make it tick.
It's maybe more complicated than you think? TBI starts on "module/dist" timing and at a slow speed like 300 RPMs swaps over to "computed timing". The tan/black wire that is either near the stock blower motor or on the passenger firewall can be disconnected to set base timing. Otherwise, timing advance is completely COMPUTED and constantly adjusted.
Please fill us in on your project. Just about every carbureted US oldie should be converted to TBI in my opinion.
If there's a viable GM TBI conversion that doesn't require a stock-style HEI distributor I want to hear about it.
Thanks and good luck!

Actually it’s the other way ‘round. I’ve converted an IH distributor to operate as an HEI unit. It will communicate with a GM TBI ECM. I’m looking for the factory IH timing curves so that I can replicate those in the timing maps on the ECM. I can then modify those for power/economy as the needed. I really want to be able to start with a know entity though- if that makes sense.

Re: Looking for distributor advance specs for 1110427 dist.

From the little I know about TBI conversions V-6 and straight six "maps" don't mix.
I think I was going to try a four cylinder Pontiac "Iron Duke" 2.5L TBI on a IHC flathead six. My thinking was that the 4 cyl Pontiac breathed as much air as the 6 cyl flathead. I was going to make an adaptor to mount the Pontiac TBI on the IHC along with a HEI-converted distributor so the fuel injection might be more appropriate.
Otherwise, the conversion would be very easy. Just a 02 sensor bung welded in the exhaust pipe. I'd use the stock Pontiac TBI ECM until otherwise advised. The six-cylinder HEI input would just look like a faster running running 4 cyl? Worth a try.
Anyway, cool stuff!

With the needed programming hardware and knowledge, or knowing someone that already possesses the ability to tune/modify the GM 7747 ECM then it doesn’t matter which TB you use nor ECM for that matter. You can change almost every characteristic of the program. I started with the 4.3L tb as it most closely matched the displacement of my engines. While these engines spin slowly, I can’t help but suspect airflow was limiting factor in their overall performance. I’m not trying to build a hot rod, but I do want the engine to run as well as it can.

You’re welcome to stop by my thread in the LRS build off section if you want to see what I’m up to.

Hamilton Injection dude (disagreeable jerk) is the one that let out that V-6 and I-6 programs are very different, displacement being the same or not.
That 7747 ECM is magical! It was used in SO many TBI pickups, etc. 4.3l, 5.0l, 5.7L.
With spring sprung here in Central CA you make me want to put TBI on something.
Yes, I'll stop by.

Since I wasn't having any luck getting a written copy of the advance curves I decided to dust off my Allen Dist. machine and check my dist. The unit was essentially unused I was hoping that it was still in good order.

Here's the data I got from my Delco dist. 1110427-3F18
Mech. advance

1*-850rpm
2*-950rpm
3*-1100rpm
4*-1250rpm
5*-1350rpm
6*-1500rpm
7*-1650rpm
8*-1750rpm
9*-1900rpm
10*-2000rpm
11*-2100rpm
12*-2200rpm

Vac adv.
1*-8"hg
2*-9"hg
3*-10"hg
4*-10.5"hg
5*-11"hg
6*-12"hg
7*-12.5"hg
8*-13.5"hg

The numbers match the data given for the AMC 258 engines with the aluminum distributors.

I'm guessing the IH specs are in CTS-2312. Maybe someone could post that page. Good stuff to have anyway.
