Re: Proper brake master cylinder, B-162

It is important that you determine if your brake system is a Hydovac or Hydroboost , both are BENDIX. Unless your system is boosted from a separate, engine driven, hydraulic pump or shares pressure from a power steering system, your truck will have a HYDROVAC. Hydrovac makes brake boost assist from the vacuum of the engine intake. If the vacuum connections leak, the engine will run poorly and the braking will be compromised.
If you put BENDIX HYDROVAC into the search on You Tube you will fine lots of easy to follow diagnostics, re&re and adjusting information.
Once you totally understand the system you have, the next step of getting it to work properly will be easy, enough.
This Hydrovac system has been discussed several times on this forum. It is possible to find this information with the forum search. I just tried and the search and it worked.
I cannot properly help you with diagnostics.

62Scout , Was uncalled for comment, and by your own statement you bleed the master to the hydrovac, and I believe that the hydrovac needs to be bled first before master. I could be wrong. Yes you asked for a verification of master cylinder, have you tried to get a Line setting Ticket from the Wisconsin Historical Society? If you can, it will tell you all that the truck came with. As you say, perhaps someone put something on wrong. I could not tell you if someone has a "parts" book for your particular truck, but am sure that one could probably be gotten from Binder Books.

It is about bad timing? I'm out, remember?
I was given a bunch of IHC manuals by a friend who worked for IHC. It was his job to help close dealerships. My friend could not bring himself to throw the manuals out, so he dumped them in my shop. This was about 30 years ago. I boxed them all and put them away. Every time my wife does one of her major cleanings, we find another box of IH books. Today was one of those clean and recycle days. And there is more.
