I am considering buying an engine from this outfit. Has anyone here dealt with them? -Mike

I just went to LowMileageParts.com for a look. The return policy seems as good as any business. You should do some of your own research on the internet and see what other have to say.

Yes, I did research elsewhere, but one can't always trust online reviews since they can be written by an employee. So I am hoping for an answer from a fellow forum member, in whom I can have confidence. Anybody?

Re: LowMileageParts.com

I own an auto repair business in California and have purchased lots of used engines.
LKQ has things pretty much locked up around here.
I've never heard of this outfit.
Here's the deal: buying used from the previous owner who can attest to the quality of the part in question is invaluable. Like buying from a well-known member, here.
The only thing a big company (like LKQ) can do for you is to CHARGE you for a great warranty. You pay MORE for MORE months of warranty.
Are you in a hurry to pull out a bad used motor you've just installed?
Don't believe ANYONE when they quote miles.
Used engines are a GAMBLE from ANYONE. About as bad as used transmissions.
My suggestion is to buy your used engine from someone who "just has to" upgrade his truck and get his perfectly OK old engine.
My "rebuilt" IHC 345 came from a man updgrading his Scout to SB Chevy!

Re: LowMileageParts.com

When I was in the auto-biz we installed a fair number of used engines, pan and one rod and one main was always pulled and inspected, engines with timeing chains always got a new one. we figured the cost of this into the quote before the job was approved. It was our way of insuring what we were installing.
Unless you look at the internals, you are gambling, regardless of the reputation of the seller, they themselves, may not know the internal condition.
