You are right patience is the right way to go. My truck had been setting several years, it was not locked up but the rings were stuck to the pistons. Used the same procedure as you, mystery oil and some 30w mixed together. Let it set for about 2 weeks and it worked really well. Good Luck.

And, Got it on a stand-

And, Heads off-

I put some acetone/ATF mix in there to soak a bit more.

The engine bay is nice and open now- I plan to clean it up, fix some rust here and there, and paint it-

Sorry you had to bite the bullet and pull the engine. But now you will know for sure what you really have going on. Keep us posted.

Some bad news... Remnants of spun bearings in the oil pan.

So, Looks like either a total rebuild or new engine.

Most likely to be camshaft bearing material. Very common after 40 years of use.
Main & rod bearings rarely go bad in an IH SV-8 engine, unless it has really been abused over a long period.

Yeah, I haven't totally given up on it yet. I am setting it aside for a while, it's still not freed up, so I've got the cylinders soaking still. If I can get it free, I'll decide if I am going to rebuild this engine or search for a replacement.

There is a good chance that it was run until it overheated the last time it ran- The previous owner was highly intoxicated, hit a tree, trashed the radiator. There is a distinct possibility that he left it running until it shut itself off...
