Heavy Duty C1100

I saw something today I don't remember seeing before. While looking under this pretty clean C1100 stepside pickup at the wrecking yard I saw 2 or 3" tall heavy duty I beam welded to the bottom of the C1100 frame. Very professionally done. The I beam tapers up at either end where the frame goes over the axles.
Shoulda taken pictures.duh. Next time.
Anyone seen this done before. Done at the factory?
The heavy duty diamond plate rear bumper has protected tailights.
Channel front bumper.
V-8 engine. Manual trans.
Heavy duty!

I have never seen that type re-inforcement on a pickup although I admit they needed it with some of the loads people put on them. My R160 has the "fishplate" double thickness frame from the front springs to the rear which looks factory original. My S160 had the frame cut and lengthened by a previous owner. They welded/bolted plating all along the middle of the frame and it has held up well.

C1100 booty.
About $160.00 after I take in "cores". Gotta love self-service wrecking yards. I probably do have some appropriate cores to take back.
The stepside pickup bed I already had.

According to the spec plate data in the pic you posted that truck has a 5800 GVW which is 400 pounds more than my B110.
