Re: shift linkage

Likely worn out bushings in the linkage rods.

Re: shift linkage

I'm hazarding a guess saying that it the actual white bushings in actual steering column aren't holding the two rods apart anymore does anyone have a fix for this.the to shift linkages are binding together with the two little rod meet in the middle.does anyone know if there's a way I can post a picture and then you can see it

Re: shift linkage

if the bushings are bad enough it will allow enough slope in the linkages for them to bind. that is exactly what i had on by 63 f100 with 3 on the tree. when i put in new bushings, the slope was gone, and so was the bind.

Re: shift linkage

I looked in the MT-118 which is for the '66-'68 models to see what they used. I don't know if they're the same but they also have bushings ay the transmission end of the rods.Probably a good idea to check those too.

It's really hard to tell what the upper bushings even look like in that pic. I wouldn't bend a thing,it could make a bad situation worse. If any are touching it indicates something is worn.

If it's feasible take it all apart,(tag or bag the parts so you know what goes where) and post pic's of them. Seeing them may help and lead to others knowing a viable fix. I have doubts on finding original service parts.

Re: shift linkage

Thanks I'll do that, do you have any suggestions on how to get them out. I started taking things apart the other day but not sure how to get the bushings out .

Re: shift linkage

I have no idea how they come out. If someone with a service is reading this thread they'll chime in?

I don't know if it will help but,the link is for the parts books I mentioned. I don't know if this is even the same as yours but I have a hunch it is. The bushings are rubber and probably have a steel sleeve in them from the looks of things(?).

Go to Fig. 13-3 and 13-4 for the upper & lower sections.

Not the best pic's though. You can download the file and open it with Adobe Reader, they're much larger that way.
