BD240 Cap and Rotor

Hi all,

So I have been having issues tracking down the correct rotor for the distributor on our BD240. Distributer is part number 1112416. The rotor that I received from Rock Auto, and the ones I keep encountering while trying to find an alternate, all are too tall for the distributor cap. I have the old rotor and it is shorter than the new ones. The cap I have is part number DR428. I also tried a Delco D307. Both are the same height. The rotor I have is part number DR308, and is too tall. I don't know if I have the wrong cap or the wrong rotor..... I am leaning towards the rotor being wrong, since the old one is short. But I can't seem to determine a part number for a shorter rotor.
I have attached some photos. Anybody run into an issue like this before?

Re: BD240 Cap and Rotor

No firm answer but might try this:

EDIT: on further research, it shows that it is used on 8 cyl cars, and shows no 6 cyl so might be too long?

Re: BD240 Cap and Rotor

A DR 158 rotor is for a 6 cyl and list IHC part number 3069778R1

https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Distributo ... 0#viTabs_0
Crosses to the same STD number but has more pictures. Also right time frame, right number of Cyl Chey trucks from the 40's.

Re: BD240 Cap and Rotor

BTW when I run the numbers you gave, they all stop at 1957 model year, so if before that, I would guess it takes a different cap and rotor, like a D 196 or 402 and a dust shield between the cap and dist.

Re: BD240 Cap and Rotor

Thank you Cornbinder. The DR158 definitely looks shorter. I may give this a try. Rock Auto has them for under 4 bucks.
This truck is a 1959 A110, though most parts listed are under 1958. Not sure why this distributor isn't listed after 57...

Re: BD240 Cap and Rotor

He tried the DR308 and it was too tall, either the cap is wrong or the rotor is different.

Re: BD240 Cap and Rotor

The SD's and I think early BD's used a Delco 1112355 distributor. Then the switch to the 1112416, which ran till about '67 or '68, ending with an aluminum base distributor with internal vacuum control. I'm fairly confident the numbers I posted are correct for the 1112416, but I'll double-check. Would hate to lead the goose chase.

For the 1112355, I have :
Distributor Cap – Standard Motor Parts #DR-413, NAPA #ECHRR142 (Hi-Perf) or RR95, BWD #C16
Rotor – Standard Motor Parts #DR-158, NAPA #ECHRR143?, or MPE RR83SB, BWD #D10
Points – Standard Motor Parts #DR-2227XP, NAPA #ECH CS63A or CS 763P
Condenser – Standard Motor Parts #DR-50X, NAPA #ECH RR1750 or RR174

Re: BD240 Cap and Rotor

Both the SMP and Delco catalogs show rotor DR308 and cap DR428 for the 1112416, and I know those worked on my 1112416. Guess I just don't have an answer, since those are the parts he has.

Re: BD240 Cap and Rotor

I don't have either, nor a small 6 so I am more in the dark than you, I just tried to help by digging through some old buyers guides I have.
