A112 Steering Ball Worn

Hi Guys,
So my latest mission is in regards to a worn steering arm ball on our 1959 A112, FA1 axle, no power steering. The arm assembly is part number 166 787 R11. Per the parts book, these are sold as a complete assembly. Jeff from the forum tried to help me find one, but no luck. The ball is worn and stepped, so I'd like to replace it with new. The rest of the arm is fine. Does anyone know of any of these being available? Or, anyone ever been able to replace only the ball? I can't tell how it was assembled, but looks to be pressed together. I don't want to destroy it without having a better understanding first, although it may be a lost cause. The ball isn't listed separately in the book, and there is no procedure in the maintenance manual. Just curious at this point.
I have attached a few photos.
Thanks!
Bryon

Have drilled them out but they are installed with heat, and swedged in. And use to have some tapered tool for that. I believe it's 4 degrees off memory.

Don't know if this is the same they didn't change them much.
They can be repaired welded and reground. there is a post somewhere on that.
My 2 cents.charlie may have one.

Re: A112 Steering Ball Worn

I installed power steering on an R120. I drilled out the center of the ball then pressed the rest out. I used an XKUT tapered reamer to form the taper for a MOOG rod end.
I think this method could be used to replace the ball connection on the pitman arm also.
The power steering box I used was a SAGINAW unit from a dodge Ramcharger 4X4. This is probably the same Saginaw used on fist generation Ram 4X4 trucks.

The reamers are about $140cdn each.

Thanks guys. I ended up building it up with a bit of weld. Its not perfect, but I think it will be OK.

Re: A112 Steering Ball Worn

You think it will be OK? That may not be good enough. If your fix fails and causes another person injury or loss, your insurance company will dump you instantly and you get to be responsible for any and all damages.
You have all of the information you need for a proper fix. The choice is yours.
