Front Shackles

Hello!
I am in search of an alternate part number for the front spring shackle off a 1959 A110.
Jeff from the forum helped me out by giving me the IHC part number, which is 169921R91. I thought I had it figured out with AC Delco part number 45g13005, but now that these arrived I see that they are about an inch longer than the originals. I am assuming this would make the truck sit higher, which I don't want to do because I am installing new springs, which will make it sit high enough.
Anyone have thoughts on this, or happen to have found a cross referenced shackle of similar dimensions? The original was around 4 1/2 inches in length. The AC Delco I bought is closer to 5 1/2 inches.
As always, thank you for taking the time to read this and help!

Re: Front Shackles

I built new shackles and pin perches. It was easy enough for me because I have a 16" SB lathe. These old lathes are very inexpensive. I got this South Bend for a couple hundred bucks.
there is the possibility that the shackles should be longer to accommodate the increasing length of the leaf spring, between the eyes, as it is compressed.

That's a cool observation, Nikki
And you do have all the tools.

Having or not having tools was a choice I made. Simple arithmetic told me that smoking was expansive and likely to take to an early and painful grave. I stopped smoking 37 years ago. My smoking savings/tool account has had well over $120,000 pass through it.
The freedom from cigarettes' and the freedom to buy tools without hesitation is fantastic.

Re: Front Shackles

Hi guys,
Thanks for all the info!
Nik, it looks like you have a hell of a shop there!
I think I am going to try these Delco shackles. They are a bit taller, but I'm hoping the truck sits ok.
I'll post pics once I get it together.
Thanks again for all the help everyone. You guys are great!

Re: Front Shackles

If a person is careful with their measurements, the final height should be right where you want it. I thought I did everything right and the truck did not sit just right, for me.
My final fix was Firestone airsprings with height control by Holland Neway leveling valves. The "R" always sat the same regardless of the load. An air compressor and storage tank is required.
The Holland Neway valves were $75 each, the compressor was about $100. I bought 20 surplus DOT certified 3 gallon air tanks for $1 each.
The air spring added an additional 4 load bearing points to the OEM 8 points of load from the original leaf springs. I like to use \the OEM springs to track the axles.
This is information you may not need until you need it. Easy stuff.
