Re: fuel pump

Moved my post from the other thread:
Probably the Diaphragm in the pump, it will most likely need to be replaced/rebuilt. With that said, I have, in the past, sealed a small tear/hole with Superglue in a diaphragm and put it all back together. It worked fine until I could afford the kit to rebuild the pump. Oh, by the way, I was about 60 miles out in the desert, before cell phones.

Re: fuel pump

Curious... Does the bad pump have a bowl? If so is the bowl directly under the housing or off set to one side? The bowl type are NLA unless it's NOS.Even with replacement pumps currently made there is a difference, which is the orientation of the connections. Either replacement may also require some change (fittings) to how you connect to it.

If it's a bowl type pump don't throw it away, they are rebuildable and some people prefer them. That makes it good for trading at least if you don't have it rebuilt.

Re: fuel pump

The pump has a bowl on the side. The new pump has two legs comming down out of the bottom. The store Said i would just have to use adaptor fittings for the supply line to and out of the pump. But the bolts to the engine should be the same. I'm going to save the old one but I can't get a rebuild kit so any help would be great such as materials to use.

Re: fuel pump

Binder63, Could you post up the numbers on your old fuel pump? I do not know what places you check, but someone may know where you could get a rebuild kit if there is one.

Just my thoughts

Re: fuel pump

If I'm not mistaken, I think the fuel pumps are AC. Here are a couple of suppliers of rebuild kits:

http://www.classicpreservation.com/fuelpumpkits.html

http://www.maritimedragracing.com/antiq ... cellar.htm

I also found a few new glass bowls in the TSC in Urbana, Ohio. If it were closer to home, I would have brought mine in for comparison and picked up a couple of spares. Unfortunately, there are no TSCs anywhere near me. Don't now if they all have them or not, but they may also sell them online.

Hope this helps,
Gary

Re: fuel pump

I looked in the MT-118 to see what PN's were used in later models since I don't have access to the MT-110. They list Carter pumps and IH which IIRC were made by Holley. The Holley's were really good pumps, too bad they stopped making them.

I started a file with all the PN's and have pretty much narrowed it down to these aftermarket PN's...

M3405 Carter (w/off set bowl)
40375 AC
178 Airtex
These pumps do not have a bowl,an in-line filter must be added.

Inline filter type replaces IH 433114C92
41128 AC
M6959 Carter
*40334 Airtex

* 40334 crossed to M2774 Carter which is listed as the replacement for IH 151289R91 which the bowl was inline (directly under the body) I know that pump was used in Loadstars, sold many back in the day. It was later replaced by 433114C91 which I believe was an Airtex(?).

I did find a NOS Holley off set bowl pump in my research;
http://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-Internation ... 0378937235

Guess it must be made of gold plated unobtainium at that price!

I had bookmarked a site on my dead laptop that had kits for Holley pumps,I'll try to find them again.
