VIN Number Location

I have a pre-68 1200 series 4X4 truck that has a vin number on the door telling me it is a 1/2 ton, 2 wheel pick-up. I have heard that the vin number is stamped on the frame somewhere. Anyone have an idea where to look for it? I already took the glove box out, hoping to find it there, with no such luck. Bill

I'm not positive on a truck that new, but older trucks have it stamped on the front driver's side of the frame near the front spring hanger.
