1973 1110

Hey guys,

Im looking at purchasing an 1110 2wd with a 304 v8 auto trans. curious for information on this vehicle.

How reliable is the motor?

Things that are known to go bad?

Front brakes drum or disc?

Availibility of Parts?

What kind of price is usually paid for truck?

the truck has minimal rust, has been stored in barn for 21 years, started by pouring gasoline into carb and it kicked over. wheals are all locked up due too brakes seized up. going to need fuel lines and tank cleaned out. has original paint with minimal wear, interior in great shape. 83,000 original miles.

Things that are known to go bad?It's an international, you have already been down the "chase the parts" road before with your other truck

Availibility of Parts? Drums might be the harder thing to find, I do not know.

Yes I have been down the chase the parts road, just wanted to see if I could get a head start on what commonly goes bad to better prepare myself when or if purchased. Thank you for the link and advice. He is asking $2,000 which to me isn't bad but the work I'm going to need to put in it I will need to get it cheaper let alone transportation costs.

I would like to make it my daily driver, all depends on the extent of the work needing to be done

Looks like you've got "IH fever", huh Jamison? :lol:

What year is it? Does the owner have a Line Setting Ticket for it?

The SV8's are very reliable and if well maintained 83K is a drop in the bucket. With very few exceptions engine parts are readily available,plus there are even some performance items out there. The carb. is probably a Holley 2300,easy to rebuild and get parts for.
The trans. will be either a Borg-Warner or Chrysler Torqueflite (A727).

Brakes are all drum,front are 11x3,rear 11x2-1/4 both self adjusting (originally). They're Wagner and parts are available. I may even have parts numbers already crossed in my brakes file.

The rust prone areas I can recall are...rear of front fenders (especially with auxiliary fuel tank filler),under hood where hinges mount to inner fender,rocker panels and door bottoms.
If it has the "Bonus Load" P-U bed (smooth side) then top of wheel wells and bottom of tailgate.
On the bright side at least one of the Light Line dealers has some sheet metal parts (new).

Edit... Don't want to scare you off Jamison,one thing I didn't think of at the time I wrote the above was the area I'm from,the Jersey Shore. Being so close to the ocean vehicles can rust fast and bad if not washed regularly,even that isn't always good enough. Plus in winter all the salt used makes for a bad metal environment all 365 days in a year.

Irish Mike has both IH parts Manuals (depends on year) on his site,so really no need to buy one,you can download it for free. 8-)

Can't really tell you more without the specs (LST)

You might want to try a web search for prices,the link Lloyd posted has no mention of it's last update.

From 1981 to 2004 we had a 66 Travelall with a 304. The odometer turned over five times before it gave out, the Travelall kept running strong for another four years until the body cracked between the front and rear doors. The only engine work that was ever done besides fuel pumps and water pumps was a valve job after a valve spring broke on number seven back in 99. I'd probably still be driving it today if the doors would still open and close on it. As far as I can tell the 304 is pretty much bullet proof.

Yeah,the 304,345,and 392 engines are definitely long-lasting engines. Some of the old "Loadstar" 1600,and 1800's are still in use today,with well over 500,000 miles on the "clock". i had a 304/4-speed in a '67 1000 2 W.D. pick-up. It got 22 M.P.G.,in CITY driving! Better than 25 M.P.G.,on the highway! There was a grocery warehouse here that used mostly Fleetstars,(534 cu.in. gassers),until they upgraded to "Eagles",(350 big cam two Cummins). They kept two Fleetstars,as back-up/yard tractors. One clocked well over 1,000,000 miles,without any major engine overhaul! Abused by company drivers,as well! Yep,Bullet-Proof!
