Engine Question

Curious question
Will a 304 v8 out of a 77 scout drop in to my 75 200? it currently also has a 304 in it, but I might have a good deal on a spare engine

Thanks

Re: Engine Question

Same motor, just check where the engine mounts are, but they should be the same. I am not familiar with Scouts. My thoughts only.

Yes, the engines are the same, only the mounts are different.

Re: Engine Question

Nadz, there is enough snow on the ground outside my house I can't go outside to see the answer to your question. If my memory works well enough, check to compare the mounts on the bell housing. If there are 2 mounts there, and the front of your 200 has a plate with 4 bolts similar to your Scout (instead of the dogbone style of mount), then there isn't much work to be done. Hopefully this will help. Bill

Re: Engine Question

thanks Bill, plenty of snow here too, and still coming down.

I don't have a scout, I've got the 200, and am looking to pick up an engine from a scout that was taken out a couple of years ago, if it fits.

Re: Engine Question

I did a check and the pn for the block is the exact same for the models in question so,it'll work.

If you need new motor mount insulators they are chassis number specific.

BTW, The chassis # on your LST is a bit askew, can you verify the 3rd letter,is it an A or B? It looks to be EHBxxxxx.

Re: Engine Question

Thanks Scottso,

I had not noticed that the 3rd letter is hard to read, zooming in I am 90% sure it is a B

You seem to be confused.

The V-8 engine in a Scout II uses Scout II engine mounts.

The V-8 engine in a pickup use pickup engine mounts. There are three mount styles utilized in pickups depending on the truck model and model year. All three are different than the Scout II engine mounts.

Simply unbolt the mounts from the engine that don't fit your chassis and bolt on mounts that do fit your chassis.
