Do you have a picture of what your trying to remove? Is it like the Ford slideing caliper? On that one, you remove the allen head that locks the key in place, then tap the key out. It will not move without removeing the lock bolt (allen head).

I'll try and get a pick, but it is as you describe. I removed the allen retaining bolt and slide the retainer out. Drivers side, no problem, 5 min and the caliper came right out. Passenger side, bolt came out easy - retainer still wont move....

Somewhere back in the cobwebs of my memory, I remember having a stubborn one as you describe. I managed to drive the spring steel from above the key and still wouldn't move. Think I used a blunt chisel in my air hammer to drive it out. As I mentioned it was a long time ago. MM

yes that is exactly what i have. Still oiling and tapping it tho.....

So it is September now, and I have a float to tow in a parade in November so it is time to really get on the ball fixing the brakes. So far it has resisted tapping, hammering, wire brush to remove the rust, 3lb sledge, two months of PB blaster, more hammering and my small air hammer. I am seriously considering using a cutoff wheel in my open shoe grinder and 'slicing' the caliper support key since it can easily get a new one online.

Any thoughts, ideas or advice?

This is a prime example of why I stress using anti-seize.

I woulda cut the thing off long ago. As long as you don't damage the caliper itself in any way so it's good for a core...

I did more checking and found the difference of the calipers IH used. One size has a 3-1/8" bore (Raybestos lists it as 3-3/32" ) the other 3-3/8" bore. The latter was used longer and also by other vehicle mfrs.

They use different keys & springs but both should be available locally,Napa has #'s for them.
These are #'s for kits,there are #'s for each item separately too.

Well 3 hours and two cutting discs later Success!!! I have the front passenger caliper off!! The retainer key came out in pieces, and there was no evidence of the retaining 'spring' that was on top of the key on the other side. I wonder if that was the problem? The front edge of the lower bracket has a little bit of a taper on it and one pretty good 'swipe' but should not be an issue

Now on to draining the fluid, getting new calipers, bleeding the brakes.........

Hoses are disconnected, calipers are off the truck. KOI has the calipers in stock. Now to find the hoses

Did you ever get a copy of the LST? Because once again the brake code is needed for the hose. Even Raybestos lists them using the code and are actually the only mfr. that lists the hoses at all by application. A little cross referencing came thru with a couple other #'s for the (1st) one.

Not sure what the difference is,both appear to be the same length and threads,could be either the block end,the shape of solid line or the attached bracket(?).
