75 200 PU Front Brakes

Hi again everyone,

well I have a new challenge now. the front right caliper is frozen, both discs are scored and the sounds the truck makes when stopping are impressive.

Anyone know of or recommend replacement disks, brake lines, and possibly calipers?

I think you will find that the disk rotors for the IH Dana 44 (large knuckle) are difficult to find and expensive $$$.
There is a cheaper solution that was discovered to work utilizing newer rotors with either some small amount of machining or with a spacer, I forget which exactly.
The solution can be found on the Binder Planet. You will have to use the 'search' feature over there to find it.

Re: 75 200 PU Front Brakes

First,do you have a Line Setting Ticket for the truck? Is it 2 or 4 WD?
There are two brake caliper set ups (2WD) so the front brake code is needed to be positive. They use different calipers and pads. The parts you need are available and should be easy to get, just need to know which set-up.
As for rotors, there are 2 possibilities depending on the truck having single or dual rear wheels. It probably doesn't matter since they are NLA unless you find good used ones, then it does matter.

I found 2 threads on BP by Googling an IH rotor pn,which are probably the ones the previous poster mentions.

I read both, some "useful" info, some not so much and too much conjecture for my blood.
After reading I went looking in a few books which I found the hub/rotor assy's are not designed to be separated. Why I have no clue,at least one guy separated them with no problem.
The pix on pg.3 in the 1st link sent me to a Bendix catalog which has rotors with size listings. I found a number of rotors that "look" very similar but without the bolt pattern measurement,an accurate height or pilot hole size I couldn't go much further. Most seemed to have an 8 x 6.50 pattern, I Googled 2 just to see and got hits so there could be a light at the end of the tunnel.

I could give you more info and pn's with the right info.

Since you don't have the LST here's a link to a thread with a post of mine regarding LST's. There could be one in the truck so take a look...

Re: 75 200 PU Front Brakes

because there is not such thing as a dumb question on safety

any recommended places for placing the jack and then stands on the front end, planning on looking at the brakes this weekend.

Also recommendations or kits for replacing the brake lines.

Thanks

Re: 75 200 PU Front Brakes

if front axle is solid, there should be a place you can put the floor jack just on either side of center, some folks like to put it center,I have seen them slip off of the center lift or tilt to one side and move before falling off the jack, but I would rather put it to one side leaving me room to put the jack stand just behind the backing plate of the the brakes. Block the wheels on the other axle. Just my thoughts.

I agree with your recommendation Lloyd. I like the stands as close to outside on the axle I can get and chalk one of the tires on the ground front and back so it doesn't move.
