1968 1100C Stepside

About 17 years ago my grandpa was moving from East Texas to Oklahoma. He had a 1968 1100C stepside pickup that had been sitting in a hay field for nearly 15 years. I asked him if I could have the truck (I was 13 at the time) he told me that if I could get it to start it was mine. Lucky for me these old Binders are built to last. And the my surprise this truck has the 345 V8 and 4 speed manual transmission options. Plus the stepside is rare from the trucks I've been able to find from that year.

I put a little gas in the carb and a new battery on it and this bad boy started right up. After working on it a bit in Highschool it was put back in storage at my grandpa's new house. Now, my dad and I are getting serious about restoring it.

Up on the docket for the next month:
New sparkplugs and wires (eaten out by field mice)
Rebuild the carburetor (Kit on hand at the local Autozone)
Run new steel break lines
Thorough interior and exterior cleaning

Here are a few pics so far.

Sounds like a great project and you already have a very good story to tell about acquiring it! Best of luck and keep us posted with pics along the way - Bob :t0119:

pattajames,

Welcome to the site! Nice pictures.
Looks like you have a decent starting point with rust in the usual places.
I'll be looking forward to seeing the progress.

Nice truck! For a couple of tricks regarding the front cowl rust, check out my web site. Both of mine had this problem and I think I did a pretty nice job fixin' it. Lots of other useful stuff there too, just poke around and what's there.

Re: 1968 1100C Stepside

Got my line setting ticket in yesterday and went through the parts lists and highlighted the code numbers for each part.

My truck originally came with a V8 304. I had always thought it was a 345. So when I go up on Feb. 8th. I'll take a look at the plate on the engine and see what I find out.

The engine ID has no plate,if it's there it's stamped on a boss.
Here's a pic of an SV8 with the boss circled.

Thanks for the pic! It will help a lot when I start digging around in there. For some reason I was thinking it was also stamped on the block under the manifold covers as well. Can't remember where I saw that.
