Part Replacement

The brakes went out on my my '69 1110 this week. When I went to pull the wheel to fix the fluid leak, I found the wheel cylinder had deteriorated from age, I suppose. Plus the brake shoes had paper thin lining on them. I went to find new shoes, but there wasn't a listing for them at the parts store. The counter guy did have a listing for the rear shoes, though. I decided to try that, not knowing then it was a bad idea. I do now. They won't fit right, and finished taking out the wheel bearings. Plus, the tie-rod ends had been getting weak anyway. Once all this has been corrected, I'll have a really good steering axle. And many lessons learned. I now plan to save all the old parts, until after I can be as sure as possible I won't need them after all. The old brake springs are no longer available any where I looked. I am lucky enough to have a parts truck that had the right springs. This time. It would be nice if a way could be found to replace parts safely, without learning the hard way. Right now, I'm happy I didn't have a wreck. Bill

Re: Part Replacement

Check Rock Auto. They have two listings for a 69 1100 B or C, I doubt the added 10 to the model number will change anything. Big thing to look at is the anchor end of the shoe, my 64 scout, 65 1100 and 71 traveall all have the beveled anchor end not the half moon used with round anchor pin. I only see one listing with photo to match, unfortuantly it doesn't state size on them 11" or 12", you would need to call to verify if that is the style you need. Also they do list a brake hardware kit for the 11" brakes. Let us know what you find. JMM

Re: Part Replacement

Let's start with model year & number...
1100A = 1966
1100B = 1967
1100C = 1968
1100D = 1969/70
1110 = 1971-73

I used 1100D since that is the year stated and went to the MT-124,this book also covers pre 1972 "10" series.
In the index front brakes for the 1100D & 1110 (2wd) are the same,Fig. 04-2.
For a 4x4 Fig. 04-3 only cyls are different,which is likely for hose routing,they're usually angled to the rear to clear the knuckles.

Next step was to see what may be listed for the 1100D in Raybestos & Wagner. I also cross referenced the cyl. #'s to verify,they crossed to #'s listed by both for the application. :D

Wheel cylinders 4x2;
387993C91 IHC
WC37316 Ray
WC72280 Wagner

Wheel cyl. 4x4;
Left
390679C91 IHC
WC37223 Raybestos
WC71800 Wagner
Right
390680C91 IHC
WC37224 Raybestos
WC71801 Wagner

If you have 11-1/32 X 3 w/auto adj. front brakes you're in luck,Wagner lists a set.
PAB265R
crosses to Raybestos
265PG (riveted)
265RP (bonded)

Return springs aren't listed by either mfr. SO... I took the shoe set PN to see if it fit any other vehicles. BINGO! they fit many Ferd cars & trucks '69 to 7? I used the '69 E 200,Wagner didn't list them BUT Raybestos does,plus a lot of other hardware. I won't say they are the exact same (it's likely) but it's a step in the right direction. Not knowing what the originals look like I don't know if they match the pic's I found of them,besides that's not always correct either. Also,the hold down springs and pins (listed) are different PN's between the IH & Ferd.
Can't say why there are (any) different PN's since it's a Wagner brake system!? Probably a Ferd thing. :roll:
Best thing is to physically match them all up.

Re: Part Replacement

And if you have the 12" rear brakes, Raysbestos part number for the shoes is 30PG.
