ID numbers for a V-8?

I finally got out and pressure washed the green slime off my 1956 Travelall that is sitting on a 60s IHC 4X4 frame,

so I rebuilt the leaky carburetor, and I way trying to figure out if the motor is a 304 345 or a 392?

it has the improved cooling lines to the heads, and I was told only the 345 or 392 have that? but I really know crap about the V-8s.

are there numbers stamped somewhere like on the sixes to tell what I have?

Thanks for any input.

Re: ID numbers for a V-8?

Just last night I posted a pic showing the boss where the SV8's were stamped (eng. model + SN).
See this thread;
viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2962

The 266/304 are different in the degrees of the V while the 345/392 are the same and "wider". IIRC Mike Miller knows the measurement across the valley(?). From the factory 392's were all equipped with 4bbl. and fwiw were not available in the light line until 1969 up.

"it has the improved cooling lines to the heads"
Early 392's pre increased cooling are the only 8's I know of having the pipe to head.

Re: ID numbers for a V-8?

Thank you for the info, I know my sixes, but not the V-8s,

it is a 304, I'd hoped for a little more power as I want to use this to haul a car trailer,

well, I'll just get it running for now, and look for a bigger one later?

interesting that my motor mount is on the front while the one on binder planet are on the side of the block
