Re: fire to plugs 214 green diamond

I would pull the coil wire out of the center of the distributor cap and hold it near the block while someone hits the starter switch and see if you get a spark from the wire to the block. Or you can pull one of the spark plug wires and do the same thing. You should get a spark from either one.

If no spark, check rotor/cap for buildup of carbon. No carbon, probably a bad coil. Just my guess.

You do have it wired up for Positive ground, correct? Short of that, hopefully someone else with more knowledge can speak up

Re: fire to plugs 214 green diamond

Do you know how to gap the points? If so check to see they are set correctly, probably not opening or dirty and not making contact when they close. Checking voltage on the coil you should have voltage going in, and voltage on the distributor side only when the points are open, once they close they ground creating a current flow through the coil. That causes a magnetic field in the coil, when the circuit is interrupted by the points opening the magnetic field collapses and creates the spark. With the points closed you can check spark from the coil by turning the key on and off and holding the coil wire close to a ground. Sometimes a guy will use a feeler gauge to adjust the points and they leave an oil film on the points which blocks current flow. If this happened you can lift them open with a fingernail and slip a piece of paper between the contacts, allow them to close on the paper and pull the paper out wiping the oil film off. Let us know how this turns out. MM

Re: fire to plugs 214 green diamond

With the points closed turn the key on and gently use an old screwdriver and touch the points on both sides of the contacts, should get a spark as they ground and complete the circuit, do a couple times and see if they are now making good contact. If that doesn't work, and something is grounded in the distributor as you asked, turn the key off and on while observing the coil wire close to a ground and it should spark. MM
