VIN numbers

I have a 1940 D 300 cabover.
I need to find the VIN number and don't know where to look. I don't have any papers so don't know what the number is.
The only number I can find is on the top of the exhaust manifold.

Re: VIN numbers

on your drivers side frame rail, somewhere between the axle and the front. It could be covered by crud, it could be "lightly" stamped, but the numbers should be about 1/2 inch tall.
Here is the Wisconsin Historical Societies page: http://content.wisconsinhistory.org/cdm ... 5529/rec/4
go to the 1937-1946 1940 started with 4277 chassis number 1941 started with 5356 by that I calculate that there were 1079 D300 made in 1940
