Making the CTS Manuals Easier to Use

How many times have you wrestled with one of those four and a half inch plus thick IH manuals weighing over fifteen pounds and gotten frustrated trying to get it to stay open while you work on the truck, talk on the phone or type on a keyboard? You turn it lose and watch it slam shut beacuse it’s just too thick to sit there and stay open without some help.

I had enough and found a better way to package the information then International used originally.

I went to one of the big office supply super stores and bought three binders to take the place of the aluminum rods and screws that held all the pages in one unwieldy lump. I bought Avery Heavy Duty reference binders. Just about any binder will be an improvement, but I liked the design of the Avery Heavy Duty best of all the different binder designs at the store.

To repackage my copy of the CTS – 2300 Light and Medium Duty Service Manual I used two of the 1-1/2 inch binders and one 2 inch binder.
I used the two inch binder for the “Front Axle” to “Cooling system” sections, then put the “Electrical system” to “Frames” in the one and a half inch binder and used the other inch and a half binder for the rest of the manual, “Fuel System” to “Wheel Rim”.

The binders have a clear pocket on the spine that you can use to hold a piece of paper listing what sections are in that binder. Now they lie open to whatever pages I want.

I have also used several binders to make my Sales Data Manuals from the fifties easier to handle and to reduce wear on the 50 plus year old pages while I look up information.
