Engine Colors
December 27th, 2009
We will try to keep a list of the best matching paint colors here for you.
GRD engines: The closest color that I have found so far for the GRD is made for Ace Hardware.
It is in their “Rust Stop” line. Part number: 17138 and it is called “International Green”.
BLD engines: The other day, someone had mentioned that “Dupli-Color”, pn. DE 1608 G.M. BLUE would match the original engine color pretty closely.
If you know what paint colors/mfg./etc are real close for other trucks, please post the information in a comment below.

any tips on close color for a silver diamond would be greatly appreciated.
There wasn’t much paint left on my BG 241 but the closest I found was 60′s pontiac blue.It is more blueish green and the very little paint I had to compare it to looked more greenish blue but it was pretty close.
Is the basic assumption that black diamonds were black, silver diamonds were silver, red diamonds were red, etc? I know it’s true with the green and blue, I think it’s true with the red, but I don’t know about the rest. Maybe we need to ask this in the forums??
Yes to my knowledge that is correct
The silver diamond in our 53 R-110 has remnants of silver paint on the block and valve cover, couldnt tell but i assume the same to have been on the head
[...] 1946 International Truck motor color. Dont know how much help this is, but Engine Colors | OldIHC shows a discussion about a close match. It says Ace Hardware paint # 17138, International Green is [...]
I have a 1948 KB1, GRD 214 engine. From the research I have found there seems to have been possibly 2 green colors for this engine. One called “Green-Apple” #02 with a paint of #40250 DITZ/PPG. Another called “Green #03″ or also known as “Apple-Green” #02 (sounds confusing, but several sites list it this way) with a paint code of #40055 DITZ/PPG The first green is a lighter green with more yellow in it…… while the second one is more olive army green. I beleive my engine is the second green. Many have mentioned the “Ace Hardware #17138″ paint is close….but I think these colors are exact. If you want a paint that will will take the heat of the engine better than the “Ace” paint and are willing to spend a few more dollars…. then have a paint and body shopt mix 1 pint of “single stage urathane” with these codes and spray it yourself. According to a friend of mine in the car business, this is what is painted on engines today.
Hope this helps someone,
Chris
