AMC/Nash Engines in IH Trucks

From Howard Pletcher: The following AMC engines were used in the IHC Light Line.
6-232 in Scout 800 and Light Line-1968-1971
6-258 in Scout II and Light Line–1971 thru 1974
V-400 in Light Line–4/1973 with some carried into the 74 models, I believe.

There is a rare condition called Exploding Head Syndrome which you have probably never heard of.
I found out about the 232 in ’71 when my dad got his last new pickup. At the time I had a 64 rambler with the 232 motor, and I couldn’t help see the similarities. Dad’s pickup died in ’78, of a lot of hard miles, and the death knell was a head gasket failure. late in ’79, I bought a 72 hornet(i’m still ashamed), and soon the trans died. My ford F-100 was sitting without a motor. I needed a vehicle. The six in the hornet was good. The trans in Dad’s pickup was good. Well…. You drill the 3/8″ bell holes in the AMC motor, and tap 1/2″ NC thread in them, add the pilot brng,flywheel,clutch, and pplate, Then bolt the trans to the motor and drop it into the ford.
