After 20+ Years, I’m Finally Going to Get Started

I got my ’54 R-110 from my brother in the early 1980′s. He had used it for hauling construction material, dirt, gravel, and furniture when he build a new home at that time. He had no further use for the truck and asked if I wanted it. the answer was a definite yes.

We drove the 50 miles to go and get it. My wife dropped me and my young son off and left for home. My brother got the keys, while I checked the truck over. The first thing I noticed was the mileage on the odometer (522,000 miles) Wow, they don’t go that far any more. We checked the fluids, boosted the battery and pumped the gas, (it had been sitting for a few years already).

With just a few cranks of the starter, and a couple pumps on the accelerator, it purred to life with a big cloud of blue smoke. Well, away we went, first off to the gas station, then onto the hi-way and home. By the time I got 10 – 15 miles down the road, the smoke had quit, and it ran like a top.
